Will you stick to Samsung’s The Wall ?

If you want a gigantic TV for your comparably massive house, you never have to settle with Samsung’s The Wall.

LG has unveiled the Direct View LED (DVLED) Extreme Home Cinema series, which is targeted at “super-luxury” households. It uses the same basic concept of leveraging millions of LED diodes (ranging from 2 million to 33 million) to generate a complete picture in bespoke forms, but it can scale to sizes that would make Samsung blush — you can choose from a smaller 81-inch setup to a room-dominating 325-inch setup.

If you want such extremes, you’ll need to conform to a 16:9 ratio, but if you want to watch all those video sources at the same time, you can choose “UltraStretch” 32:9 arrangements (say, live sports featuring the teams you own). If you want an 8K image, you’ll need those 33 million diodes, but if you’re not as concerned with impressing your guests, 4K or even 2K (in single or dual setups) would suffice. Smart TV functionalities are controlled via a WebOS controller box.

LG is currently taking orders for these DVLED home sets, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the company isn’t disclosing costs because each system is a custom order. It’s safe to assume that the costs will be substantial. The installation, warranty, and support (which includes twice-yearly “health checks”) are valued at $30,000 by LG, but the actual set is likely to cost much more.
